In what ways are the themes of conflict represented in this video? Mise-en-scene - L/S of police officers lined up look at black minority dancing. Mise-en-scene - 'stop shooting us' graffiti accompanies the lyric 'get eliminated' which symbolises theme of death. Representations

Binary oppositions always create conflict and emphasis. The use of binary oppositions appear to a wider audience. Binary oppositions an create humour and can be used to demonstrate producer ideologies. Representation is the way that the ideology of the producer is presented in a media product. Representations can cultivate audience ideologies and allow them to make their own assumptions about a media product. Every media product has been constructed and is different from reality. Young black women are consistently sexualised in Nicki Minaj's Anaconda. The screen wobble emphasises the size of her buttocks. Target audience - Teenage girls. Lil Pump - Gucci Gang Massive bags of weed symbolic of not caring about the law and doing what they want. No gold chains anywhere.

Vance Joy - Riptide

Riptide - Vance Joy (2013): Riptide was Vance Joy's first single to be released in the USA, following his EP, "God Loves You When You're Dancing". It became a platinum selling single. The video was directed by Dimitri Basil and Laura Gorun and has had nearly 210mil views on YouTube. Vance Joy is an Australian singer-songwriter signed to Atlantic records (subsidiary of major label, Warner). His music can be categorised as fitting into indie folk-pop genre. Objectification - The process of portraying a person as an object. Male Gaze - The theory that women are only placed in a media product to be looked at by heterosexual men. Sexualisation - The process of portraying a person in a sexual way for the pleasure of a particular audience. Voyeurism - The pleasure of watching somebody without their knowledge. Gratifications - The way in which an audience uses or takes pleasure in media products 5 ways: -Similar lifestyles -Escapism -Suveillance -Sexual Gratification -Social Interaction Surveillance - Audience gets to witness skate culture. Symbolic code of rebellion Escapism - Allows the audience to witness the freedom of the people in this video. Allows them to feel as if they stole the drink in the video giving adrenaline. Sexual Gratification - Stereotypical heterosexual male audiences may get sexual gratification from the female who is wearing very short clothes. Aspects of this video look like a makeup tutorial. Pleasure in seeing slow motion and alcohol. Audience is positioned lower than woman. Graffiti has connotations of rebellion. Rebecca Black - Friday Lyrics are literally just explaining the video.
