Humans Analysis - Nov 7th 2018

Anita is a robot that Laura owns. Laura is white whereas Anita is east asian which from an allegorical perspective suggests slavery.

Synths are often ethnic minorities.

Male gaze theory - women are put in media products to appeal to men which assumes that women are a sexual aspect of a media product to appeal to heterosexual male audiences

Anita is a stereotypical housewife. However Laura is not a stereotypical housewife because she works but she seems to get annoyed because Anita has taken her role as a housewife. Laura both conforms and subverts to this stereotype which gives a complex representation of women.

Man in brothel shows dominance over Niska because she is meant to not have feelings. Binary opposition created between men and women but also humans and synths.

Humans has an ensemble cast.

Sidestory = story arc

Anita is the main advertising character on posters because according to the male gaze theory sghe is stereotypically attractive.

Show lacks a main character.

Story that starts in the middle of the action = In medias res

According to Todorov, buying Anita is the disruption to the equilibrium

Leo's relationship with Anita/Mia in the first episode is portrayed as being a loving relationship.

Leo is leading the synths in the first episode and is see to be protecting them.

Leo is constantly running around which is a binary opposition to anita's lack of movement.

Leo rarely smiles and isolates himself in rough areas.

Diegesis - in the world of the narrative.

Subversive representation of robots in the sense that they look like real humans.

Used viral advertising.

Persona Synthetics advertisement - makes the synths seem real with mise-en-scene of robots working in a house which could be an advert inside humans which would make families want to buy synths inside the show. Use of relatable stereotypical family directly addresses audience. Use of real 'store location' at end of advert. Advertising Humans. Uses stereotypical attractive female for synth. Hermentic.

Attitude Online - Wednesday 13th March

Attitude online's primary purpose is to promote the magazine. It has a dedicated readership which may be influenced by the online version of the magazine. Camp - A deliberately tongue in cheek attitude to the world which reinforces a lot of gay stereotypes. Drag shows are very camp to appeal to a gay audience Diva is a gay magazine that is also aimed at women but it is less popular than Attitude. Attitude online is a hyper-sexualised representation of men - most images of these men are topless and often in provocative poses which is surprising in accordance to societal hegemonic norms. An article is critical of lack of representation of different body types which isn't reinforced very well by the singular muscular representation of men which suggests that these images are only being used to make money as they know it plays on the potential desires of homosexual men. Articles are generally focused on grooming, fashion, celebrities and their appearance which suggest...
