Synth trying to learn

shot of laura behind anita - mid-close up shot anita on left shown larger than laura

positioning of investigator in relation to george is higher to symbolize authority

robot malfunction with close-up reinforces importance of george's conversation with odi

high angle mid shot of odi's body of glass and jam shows the power that humans have over synths by putting the audience in a power position.

mirror shot of anita shows that we are not meant to see anita's face but the shot is composed to emphasise her face which symbolizes her importance in the series. the mise-en-scene of her holding thew towel represents holding a baby as she is copying a photo of laura which shows she has feelings.

anita looking at herself in the mirror could be a symbolic code to represent her trying to figure out who she is.

High angle mid shot of anita looking into mirror shows laura's point of view.

Shot/Countershot of conversation between george and the detective shows that the detective is more important as george is seen from a high angle which connotes being powerless. binary opposition.

camera focus on anita and then on laura in first shot as focal point shifts to position the audience with neither of them.

extreme lose-up of odi's lips as george is fixing him makes the viewer uncomfortable. Gives the impression of a father-son relationship. George is seen as being a carer.

use of lowkey lighting  in repair scen is a referencial code to a mad scientist scene like frankenstein due to mise-en-scene of dental tool.

supermarket scene is relatable

sound & mise-en-scene

footsteps to create suspense

error sounds

startup sounds

synth keeps changing tone of voice going from robotic to more human

non-diegetic soundtrack cresendos until point of climax. (odi's fatal error)

Attitude Online - Thursday 14th March

The difference between the representations of men in the online and the print version of this magazine is that the online magazine shows men as being more buff which paints an unrealistic expectation of gay men to have these body types. Print cover has a gay man with a moustache which is an intertextual reference to Freddie Mercury. The print cover positions the audience as a gay man who has had problems with bullying from 'jocks' in the past. He is wearing a US Army Costume which may be used to appeal to an international audience. The femininity of the camp hand on hip gesture is a convention that is specific to the gay magazine genre. He is breaking the fourth wall with the direct mode of address with the look into the camera. It presents the gay male on the front as androgynous which he clearly isn't but this is a form of anchorage. If somebody is a closet-gay then they can view the website so that they don't have to buy to magazine. It may be a way to reduce the...
