UTOPIA:

Genre - Horror/Sci-fi/Action - Suicide has elements of horror as well as the gaze of the people giving a sense of unease - Drawings of people with two faces links with supernatural/sci-fi genre - Elements of action are seen throughout with a link to psychedelic drug use.

The Simpsons uses intertextuality to expand the target audience. It allows the audience  to feel privileged that they have spotted the reference. Kind of shows respect for the films that are being referenced.

Charity advertising - Wateraid - Repertoire of elements - Traditional plea to audience for money and facts are used to put the audience in a position of guilt if they don't help by donating money. Symbolic code is used to suggest that if you don't donate then the problem will never be solved. Hermeneutic code to make you wonder if more children will die if you don't donate. Producer puts across the point that they strongly believe that a donation is necessary. Children in third world countries are stereotyped as having a bad quality of life.

High end clothing advertising - Louis Vuitton - Repertoire of elements - use of checkered patterns suggest sophistication. Symbolic code of patterns is used to represent order and again sophistication. Hermeneutic code is used to make an customer ask a question in regards to the quality of the clothing. However this can only be found out by buying the product. Producers ideology here is that the product being sold is amazing and that your life can be improved by owning this product. Because this brand is expensive, people who buy the products from it may be stereotyped as upper class/ wealthy.
